The short answer: Match the alternative to the part of Finviz you use. If you want stocks found while they move, Trade Ideas sends Streaming Alerts and refreshes Top Lists every 15 seconds. For charts across world markets, look at TradingView. For low-cost charting with scans, TC2000. For a daily rating on each stock, VectorVest. Trade Ideas makes one of the tools on this page.
This page is on Trade Ideas' own website. For the two side by side, live versus end of day, see Trade Ideas vs Finviz.

Investopedia: Best Short Term Stock Screener, 2024
Finviz is a web screener many traders open after the close. You set filters and it lists the stocks that match. Elite refreshes the screen every 10 seconds. The free version refreshes every 3 minutes with delayed quotes.
Heat maps, charts and fundamental columns let you sweep a long list in minutes. Elite adds real-time quotes from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, plus saved presets and alerts.
For research after the session, that is a complete, low-cost tool.
Our Trade Ideas vs Finviz page lays out every feature side by side.

Best for live Streaming Alerts and Top Lists (Screeners)
Finviz shows a list that refreshes on a timer. Trade Ideas shows US-listed stocks while they move. Streaming Alerts, the scanner, can fire on every trade. Top Lists, the screener, update every 15 seconds. Open TI Pro on any plan and the Channel Bar presets and AI Assistant are already there. Holly AI Signals, OddsMaker and Money Machine come on TI Premium, and SCoRE ranks stocks by Composite Rating.
Replaces: The Finviz screener during market hours, plus its alerts.
Filters, plus events. Finviz screens on columns of data. Trade Ideas documents 308 alerts and 249 filters in its help; any alert can run with any group of filters, each bounded by the min and max you enter.
Technical events fire here as their own alerts the moment they happen, for example a 5/8 SMA cross up on 5-minute bars, a 15-minute stochastic crossing above 20 or a Fibonacci 62% buy signal. About three in five alerts (191 of 308) add a setting of their own, such as the lookback in days on a New High, anywhere from 0 to 366.
Opening range breakouts and breakdowns come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minute versions, including the 30-minute breakout.
Worth knowing: Coverage is US-listed stocks. Money Machine, OddsMaker and Holly AI Signals need TI Premium. TI Pro is for Windows, and Mac users can run it through Parallels; the browser-based web Dashboard needs no download but leaves out Streaming Alerts and Holly. To see it next to Finviz, open a free account and start in the Dashboard.
Ask, click or write a formula. Tell the AI Assistant what you want, or click a screen together from 308 alerts and 249 filters, with no code either way. The Formula Editor lets you add a filter of your own. OddsMaker, on TI Premium, shows how that idea played out on past events; the same tier delivers Holly's intraday signals with entry and stop levels already set. Trade Ideas keeps working after the scan, and the closed loop shows the rest of the route.
Best fit: Finviz users who want to catch a move during the session, not read about it after the close.
Best for charts and screens across world markets
If you want more chart work than Finviz offers, TradingView is known for its charts. Its screeners cover stocks, ETFs and crypto on 150+ exchanges in 50+ countries. You write custom studies in Pine Script.
Replaces: Finviz charts and screens, and it adds markets outside the US.
Worth knowing: Like Finviz, the screener refreshes on a timer, and only on paid plans. Custom work is in Pine Script, not Python.
Best fit: Finviz users who want deeper charts or need markets beyond the US.
Best for charting and scanning on a budget
TC2000 is charting software with scanning built in. For a Finviz user, it moves the chart to the center of the screen.
Replaces: Technical screens and charts.
Worth knowing: Real-time scanning is a Premium feature, not a Basic one.
Best fit: Finviz users who want stronger charts and still care about monthly cost.
Best for automated chart analysis and backtests
TrendSpider automates technical analysis. It draws trendlines, runs scans and backtests, and can automate orders.
Replaces: Finviz chart reading, plus multi-timeframe scans and backtests.
Worth knowing: Scan frequency depends on the plan. Intro periods cost $19 to $49.
Best fit: Finviz users who want to test chart rules, not just filter stocks.
Best for daily stock ratings
Finviz gives you a list. VectorVest gives each stock a VST rating and a Buy, Sell or Hold call. It analyzes stocks every day, with coaching included.
Replaces: Your own Finviz filters, with daily ratings and market timing.
Worth knowing: You need Premium for real-time US data. Add-ons such as RealTime Derby are extra.
Best fit: Long-term investors who want a clear call on each stock instead of building screens.
Best for Schwab clients
thinkorswim is Schwab's trading software. Its scanner, Stock Hacker, sits next to order entry.
Replaces: Finviz screens and your order ticket, in one place at your broker.
Worth knowing: It is made for Schwab clients. Trade Ideas works alongside whichever broker you use.
Best fit: Schwab clients, plus options and swing traders.
Best for fundamental research and fair value
Stock Rover is research and screening software built for long-term investors. Higher plans add stock scores and fair value estimates.
Replaces: Finviz fundamental screens, with stock scores added.
Worth knowing: Only Ultimate lists real-time quotes. No backtester is listed.
Best fit: Long-term investors who screen on fundamentals.

Finviz still suits a lot of people. If one of these describes you, keep it.
If you are okay with static non-refreshing data, Trade Ideas is probably not your best choice.

Streaming Alerts take the place of the 10-second refresh. Top Lists take the place of saved screens. Both run on live market data.
Holly AI Signals come with TI Premium. During the session, each signal names an entry and a stop to manage risk. You can close the trade that day or keep it.
OddsMaker runs your screen against Trade Ideas history, so you see how it behaved before you use it.

Elite's $39.50 is the smaller bill. TI Standard's higher price pays for a database Trade Ideas engineered itself and has updated for more than two decades, Streaming Alerts that report each event as trades print, and Top Lists (Screeners) that refresh every 15 seconds.

Finviz centers on a quick screener and heat maps, while Trade Ideas centers on catching stocks the moment volume shows up. If that second job is yours, Trade Ideas is often the stronger pick.
